Should I have Live Music at my Wedding?

The advantages and disadvantages explained.

When it comes to wedding music, there is no right or wrong answer – it all depends on what you and your partner want. That said, there are some pros and cons to having live music at your wedding that you should consider before making your final decision.

On the plus side, live music can provide a more personal atmosphere than recorded music. This is because the musicians are playing specifically for your event and are using a skill they have been practicing for years and years. Additionally, live music can be a great way to fill any awkward silences during the reception!

However, there are some drawbacks to having live music at your wedding as well. Firstly, it can be significantly more expensive than recorded music from a DJ, as you will need to pay the musicians for their time and talent. Additionally, live music can be unpredictable – if the band makes a mistake, there’s no way to edit it out!

If you’re still undecided on whether or not to have live music at your wedding, read on for tips on how to choose the right type of live music for your big day.

How to choose the right type of music for your wedding

When it comes to wedding music, there are a lot of factors to consider. You want to make sure you choose the right type of music to set the tone for your wedding, while also taking into account the musical tastes of your guests. And, of course, you want to choose songs that have personal meaning to you and your fiance! With so much to think about, it can be tough to know where to start.

One of the most important things you can do when choosing wedding music is to figure out the atmosphere you want to create. Do you want a more intimate gathering with live acoustic music, or a big party with a DJ spinning dance tunes? Once you have a general idea of the mood you’re going for, you can start narrowing down your options.

It’s also important to do some research on what type of music your guests will enjoy. If most of your friends and family are into country music, then hiring a jazz band might not be the best idea. Of course, you also don’t want to pigeonhole yourself – if you love jazz but think your guests might not be too keen on it, try choosing one or two jazz standards that everyone will recognize.

When it comes to choosing songs that have personal meaning to you and your fiance, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, think about songs that have special significance for your relationship. Perhaps there’s a song that was playing when you first met, or one that was popular when you got engaged. These types of songs can be really powerful when included in your wedding day soundtrack. You can also choose songs that reflect your individual personalities or taste in music – for example, if one of you loves classic rock and the other is into Motown soul, find a song that combines both genres.

Finally, when booking a band or DJ for your wedding, make sure you have seen them perform live before making a commitment. This will give you a good sense of their stage presence and whether they’ll be able to get your guests up and dancing. Once you’ve found someone whose style meshes well with your vision for the big day, sign on the dotted line and enjoy knowing that the music at your wedding will be just perfect!

The benefits of having a DJ vs. live music at your wedding

A DJ can provide a wider range of music than a live band, and is typically less expensive to hire. Bands on average have about 100 songs in their library to choose from where DJs have hundreds of thousands and can always download songs on the spot if needed. You also have to understand that an average person only knows the Bon Jovi version of Livin on a Prayer and that is what they like to dance and sing to. Bands often rearrange their songs to fit the singers in the band and can even have significantly different versions then the song your crowd is used to. Additionally, a DJ can take requests from guests and play music throughout the entire wedding, without the need for breaks. Finally, a DJ requires less space than a live band, making them a more convenient choice for smaller wedding venues.

The cost of hiring live musicians for your wedding

The cost of hiring live musicians for your wedding can vary widely, depending on the type of musicians you hire and the length of time they play for. The average cost of a live musician is $400-$600 per hour and ranges due to the instrument they are playing. Harps will cost more than violins for the simple reason of moving the instrument from place to place. However, there are some factors that can affect the price, such as the number of musicians in the band and the location of the event. Additionally, if you want the musicians to play during dinner or other parts of the reception, that will likely increase the cost.

There are a few ways to save money on live music for your wedding. One option is to hire student musicians, who will typically charge less than professional musicians. However, you will get what you pay for when it comes to people that are still learning and are not yet professionals. Another possibility is to choose a band that specializes in weddings, as they may offer discounts for multiple bookings. Finally, you could simply limit the amount of time that the musicians play during the reception. For example, you might only have them play during the ceremony or cocktail hour.

As you can see there are a lot of things to consider when choosing between a band and DJ. It ultimately depends on your personal preferences and your budget.
